about me
IT'S ALL A DREAM
I am Jack, known by my artist name 'Freo'. As a visual artist based in Melbourne, I take great pride in my craft, residing and working in the vibrant south eastern suburbs of the city. Art has been an integral part of my life since its very inception.
Throughout my journey, I've had my fair share of less-than-desirable jobs, ranging from dishwashing to selling golf equipment. However, I found solace in painting custom art for individuals while simultaneously pursuing full-time studies and a passion for golf. Gradually, I shifted my focus away from golf and dabbled in various jobs, all the while honing my artistic skills on the side. Fast forward to 2020, when I realized that my art alone could sustain me, I bid farewell to part-time work and embraced my destiny as a lifelong artist without any regrets.
Presently, I devote myself entirely to painting murals and canvases, dedicating my time to exhibitions as well. The aspect of my career that brings me the most joy is undoubtedly creating fresh collections of original artwork and hosting solo exhibitions for the world to admire. It is a deeply fulfilling and rewarding experience. I take immense pride in my achievements thus far and owe a debt of gratitude to the incredible individuals who surround and support me.
My artistic inspiration stems from personal life experiences and pressing social issues. These influences merge harmoniously, resulting in a vivid and often vibrant form of pop art. I revel in the exploration of characters, lines, shapes, and colors, utilizing them to craft my unique creations.
As an artist and designer, I find inspiration in the ever changing world around me. I employ a personal vocabulary of bold and creative imagery to express the mixed emotions and hard to explain feelings of the inconsistent world. Within this realm, my work varies from abstract to pop art, and I am continuously moving along the continuum between the two.
Recently I have reconnected with my love of design and have been exploring ways to connect art and design. This has allowed me to develop not only emotional connections with the pieces but a technical aspect about them too.
My work reproduces familiar visual images, arranging them into a new conceptual design. While I use a variety of materials and processes in each project my methodology is consistent. Although there may not always be material similarities between the different projects they are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter. The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the work.
