About the Piece
Barely Breathing was inspired by a recent panic attack—an attempt to express the overwhelming silence, fear, and chaos of anxiety.
The work features Blake Treharne, whose introspective presence serves as the vessel for this reflection. He appears lost in thought, while a more distressed version of himself hides his face in anguish—representing the duality of internal struggle.
A roller door looms behind them, symbolizing the mental barriers that both trap and protect us—and the possibility of eventual release.
This painting is about more than pain—it's about resilience, vulnerability, and the complexity of mental health. A visual meditation on uncertainty, caught in the space between now and what’s next.
